The Obstacles to Growing your Passion

Let us talk about why so little people are growing their passion into an obsession. From all we’ve talked about so far concerning how much more effective it is to pursue greatness with obsession rather than passion, it seems incredible that so few people have actually developed their passion into obsession, isn’t it? Why is it that something that makes so much sense is not being adopted by people all over the world?

Every person of great impact in the world has been faced with obstacles at one time or the other. Obstacles that stood in the way of them growing their passion into the obsession they need to be world-beaters. The nature of the obstacles in the past may be different from that of now, but one thing remains constant, if you do not overcome these obstacles, you may never grow your passion; you may never attain the position of greatness you were created for. The common obstacles that hinder people from cultivating their passion into obsession are outlined below;

Average Advice from the Society

So many people have been led astray by what they hear from people all around them. Earlier, we talked about how the definition of obsession has been changed by public perception, so much so that it is now associated with people who use their obsession negatively and to perpetuate bad deeds. But they fail to talk about the other type of obsession; the obsession to reach set goals, the obsession to amount to something in this world, the obsession to live a life of impact and significance. Do not be deceived, your life is in your hands (not in the hands of these people), and if all the men and women that used their obsessions to make great impact on the world had listened to and followed societal trends, most of the great accomplishments we see in the world would never have happened.

Another societal misconception is that people who pursue their dreams obsessively “do too much,” and they’ll often advise you to “slow down” or “take it easy.” They’ll say, “Don’t work so hard; life is to be enjoyed.” If things aren’t going your way, and you double-down and put in more effort, they’ll tell you, “don’t overwork yourself, there are people who have it worse.” Advice like these has made billions of people all over the world settle into a life of perpetual mediocrity.

Next time someone asks you to “slow down,” gently remind him that your goals are different from theirs and that if Steve Jobs or Bill Gates had “slowed down,” they won’t have accomplished what they did. The blind do not tell people with eyes how to see, do not allow mediocre people to tell you how to be exceptional.
